Beechcraft history was made when the new aerospace company introduced their Bonanza aircraft in the late 1940s. One of the first models to grace the general aviation industry was the A35 Bonanza. This aircraft was one of the first models and would become the skeleton design for the next 60 years of Beechcraft single engine aircraft.
The A35 was produced first in 1949 as the aviation industry was just blossoming. The A35 Bonanza’s trademark was its unique tail design. Instead of a straight vertical design, the Bonanza models came with a split V-tail that many general aviation pilots of the time enjoyed.
While the A35 only delivers around 148 knots of speed, this plane is more of a historical investment rather than a powerhouse.
Another new feature of the A35 Bonanza in 1949 was its ability to have nose-wheel steering instead of differential braking. An upgrade from the “straight-35” series, the A35 also had a heavier weight.
Unfortunately, one of the top complaints of the time about the A35 was that it had too little structural stability. This greatly reduces the options to upgrade the A35 Bonanza, even modern ones that have been well-maintained throughout the years.
The A35 Bonanza is not just a basic single engine aircraft, it’s also a historical investment. Parts and maintenance of an A35 Bonanza is more expensive due to the scarcity of parts, but there’s nothing like an air-worthy A35 Bonanza with a flying history to match its classic value.
