Bellanca Aircraft can trace its origins to 1911, when the first Italian designed aircraft took shape in Europe. Giuseppe Mario Bellanca moved to the US in 1911, drawn by the budding American aerospace industry.

An Italian aerospace enthusiasts and designer, Bellanca worked with several aerospace companies in America including Maryland Pressed Steel Company, Wright Aeronautical Corporation and Columbia Aircraft Company. He founded Bellanca Aircraft in 1927, eventually settling down in Delaware where his aircraft trade continues today.

Bellanca Aircraft is known for designing highly fuel-efficient aircraft with very low operating cost and mechanical fatigue. In fact, these characteristics of Bellanca aircraft led to history-setting records by the aircraft models. Lindbergh’s first choice of small aircraft for his New York to Paris flight was a Ballanca WB-2. Like many early aerospace designers, Giuseppe Mario Bellanca had a very strong opinion of who should fly the Bellanca for this long duration flight. Lindbergh’s disagreement with Bellanca led him using a Ryan aircraft.

Throughout the decades, Bellanca’s designs have remained loyal to their original namesake. The lineage of Bellanca aircraft all have highly efficient engines that are very reliable and only require overhaul every 2500 to 3000 hours. Bellanca Aircraft was renamed to AviaBellanca Aircraft Corporation in 1983 and to this day, several models remain on the market.
