Buying A Piper Cherokee 235 That Is For Sale.

In the early 60s, Piper debuted their Cherokee line of aircraft, releasing many different models in the line. The Cherokee 235 debuted in 1963, following the Cherokee 150, 160, and 180.

The Cherokee 235 was similar to Piper’s previous Cherokee models in that it was an all-metal, single-door, unpressurized airplane that featured a piston-powered single engine, low-mounted wings, and a tricycle landing gear.

But that was where the similarities ended. The 235 was better in every way than previous models, featuring longer wings and a whopping 84-gallon fuel carrying capacity. It even gave the popular Cessna 182 a run for its money in terms of load-carrying capability.

The 235 was made better, however, when in 1973 it was given a longer fuselage that made for more leg room for passengers and a larger stabilator area. Around this time, Piper began renaming their Cherokee planes to give them more personality and to make them more contemporary sounding. The Cherokee 235’s new name in 1973 was the Charger.Just one year later, the Charger was renamed the Pathfinder.

The Pathfinder line was discontinued in 1977, but experienced a resurgence just two short years later when the Dakota debuted (there was no 235 model of any kind produced by Piper in 1978). The Dakota was based on the old Cherokee 235s, Chargers, and Pathfinders and had moderate success. Despite the changes, many pilots still enjoy their old, powerful Cherokee 235s and you can still see them on many airfields to this day.
