The same engineering that produced the P51 Mustang also gave way to the Commander-series aircraft produced by the Commander Premier Aircraft Corporation. The first Commander-series aircraft was the Commander 112, a single engine aircraft packed with a 180 horsepower engine with an optional upgrade to 200 horsepower (210 horsepower with a turbocharge).
The Commander 112 was the first single engine aircraft in the Commander-series that had retractable landing gear and upgraded avionics. Originally, the Commander 112 came standard with gauge avionics. In today’s market, the Commander 112 can often be bought with an upgraded avionics kit and even a full glass cockpit. This aircraft was produced between 1972 to 1979; making it a fairly available used single engine aircraft.
The cabin of this aircraft has a rare feature not available in many older aircraft: a comfortable cabin. The Commander-series aircraft always comes standard with larger seats than other aircraft and better ergonometric design. The Commander 112 is no exception to this standard. From the beginning, this aircraft is plush, refined and classy. Even for an older aircraft, the Commander 112 is perfect for the private company looking for a small transport.
This aircraft is also known as one of the best handling aircraft for newer pilots. Similar to a Piper or lower-powered Cessna, the Commander is a great match for a someone looking to refine his or her flying skills. The Commander is also very sturdy throughout winds, rain and turbulence. With a range of around 750 miles, the Commander is perfect for the general aviation hobbyist.
