Why You Should Consider Buying A Diamond Aircraft

A relatively new player in the general aviation industry is Diamond Aircraft. Diamond Aircraft was founded in 1981 in Austria under Hoffmann Flugzeugbau. Diamond had very humble beginnings as a composite motor glider producer. Until 1991, the company produced a series of motor gliders, which would eventually pave the way for the first single engine aircraft produced by Diamond, the DV20 Katana.

In 1992, a second manufacturing branch was opened to better serve the North American market. A Canadian plant was opened under the name Dimona Aircraft. In 1994, Dimona became Diamond Aircraft at the same time it was designing its first general aviation aircraft. By 1995, the DA20 arrived on the general aviation scene as the newest manufacturer. Immediately the DA20 received awards for superior design and engineering. By 1997, over 500 of these single engine aircraft were sold and new models entered production.

Sales continued at a reliable pace in Diamond’s North American market, so much that the aircraft company designed a new DA40 that became the company’s first four-seater IFR aircraft. Only four years later, the DA42 was released as a twin-engine aircraft, hailed for its simplistic flying and easy upgrade training from a single engine. Finally, Diamond recently produced the D-JET, a small jet engine aircraft for general aviation.

Even during the financial crisis in aviation during the late 2000s, Diamond aircraft continues to be financially solvent. Diamond only laid off 100 workers, only 1/20th of their total global workforce. Conservative production and careful marketing ensures this company stays viable in these tough aviation times.
