Like a new car, an aircraft has the ability to go up in value or plummet in value. It all depends on a few factors. Your plane’s value is mostly dominated by how much maintenance and tender loving care you put into it. Outside of the general aviation market, there are a few easy tips to follow to ensure your aircraft stays in top shape for future selling.

First, never skimp on aircraft maintenance. When you are nearing an engine overhaul, don’t wait until you have a burnout or leak to perform this costly repair. Stressed engines always age prematurely. Always replace wheels and bearings when they are due. Never let cosmetic repairs get so bad that you have corrosion, rust and oxidation on the surface of your plane. Finally, always get an airplane appraisal once every few years to trend how your plane has improved. This history can prove valuable when educating potential buyers of the continued quality of your plane and well-kept maintenance history.
