Purchasing a Mooney may mean spending a little more money upfront, but in the long run, you can expect the best performance and maintenance service records around in the general aviation industry.

Mooney’s first high performance aircraft was the M20E, and from this model produced in the 1960s, aeronautical engineers have created a whole industry around the Mooney powerhouse. A very popular older Mooney model is the M20F “Executive 21”.

To this day, the M20F Exec 21 continues to set the standard for an aircraft that possesses both superior performance and superior comfort.

The M20F Exec 21 model is almost always purchased with a turbocharge aftermarket 200 horsepower engine. This provides speeds around 160 miles per hour at cruise altitude, delivering max payload in moderately fast time.

The Exec 21 is an upgrade from the original M20F model, delivering even more cabin comfort features. The Exec 21 comes standard with plush seating, larger cabin space (coupled into the extended fuselage of the aircraft) and enhanced electronic plug-in ports. Also, the Exec 21 comes with electrically powered landing gear, which was originally optional on the bare bone M20F model.

For private companies, the M20F Exec 21 has an added feature of shorter takeoff runway requirements. This allows companies to use their own strips much more easily than other public airports.

The less space required is another budgetary constraint to take into account when purchasing a Mooney. Chances are, you can save considerable money using your own strip and hangar. The Mooney M20F makes this more feasible than ever.

Later M20F Exec 21 models come standard with a more widely accepted T-shape avionics gear. Earlier models will often have non-standard avionics, which is particularly challenging for IFR flight and new pilots trained on T-shape avionics.

For the Mooney enthusiast, this nonstandard avionics can be highly sought after, especially if adding the M20F to an already historical collection. In today’s market, the Exec 21 can run up to $180,000, especially if its newly maintained with modern upgrades such as digital avionics and built-in GPS. .
