Beechcraft engineering is known for its cutting edge use of modern technology. In the 1960s, general aviation saw dramatic changes in its instrumentation panels as technology advanced. Beechcraft aircraft from this era reflect the updated technology as their models changed year after year.
The P35 is notorious for a unique instrumentation design. Manufactured in 1962, it was produced by Beechcraft to respond to updated instrumentation available for the N35 Bonanza.
The P35 is practically the same as the N35, with one exception. The piano-key switches in the N35 Bonanza were removed and the instrumentation updated to reflect more accurate, easy to read switches. The P35 Bonanza was born.
The P35 features a moderately powerful single engine, rated at 170 horsepower. An upgraded engine also became available as a secondary option, capable up to 260 horsepower.
The total size of the gas tank rose to 80 gallons and the total size of the compartment lengthened, allowing more overhead cargo space. The P35 is enjoyed by the pilots who fly it, most notably after they get used to the different instrumentation on this small aircraft.
Today’s modern aircraft feature “all glass” cockpits, while many of the older used aircraft have more traditional dial cockpits.
Before you buy your first general aviation aircraft or purchase a different aircraft, consider carefully what instrumentation you’ve been trained on and how willing you are to get used to different instrument design. The P35 Bonanza is a great single engine aircraft for the mid-to-advanced experienced pilot.
