Piper Aircraft is known for their long history of producing trainer aircraft. The Piper Warrior series currently has three aircraft models, the Warrior I, II and today’s III. The Warrior is one of the most well recognized modern trainers on the market. Along with being a great trainer, the Warrior also makes a great hobbyist plane for the more experienced pilot.
Built with a standard 160 horsepower engine, the Warrior isn’t the powerhouse Mooney airplane. Rather, it’s a heavier basic aircraft designed with the new pilot in mind. The Warrior I and II come standard with the T-shaped avionics suite available on almost all older aircraft. The newer Warrior III comes with Avidyne glass cockpit suite and is used in more advanced training. Most training schools will start their new pilots on Warrior I or Warrior II and move up to the III variant.
As a private purchase, the Warrior III can provide about 500 miles of powered flight with enough room for a pilot and passenger comfortably. The cabin also permits two back-seat passengers, but this plane is not designed for high-class transport or comfort. It’s a training low-wing powerhouse single engine aircraft designed for ease and safety of flight.
A great safety feature of the Warrior series is its clear ability to signal an upcoming stall to the pilot. Cessna and other single engine trainers often do not come with this feature. The Warrior has one of the most proven safety records on the market, owing much of its success to its low-wing design that works with student pilots to improve performance.
