Cessna 140..

Is This Classic Still Worth Buying?

The Cessna 140 & 120 started coming off the assembly line in 1946. Ulthough over 7,000 were produced and sold, they stopped making them in 1950. Shortly after that, the 150 came into production.

So is the 140 still worth buying compared to the 150?

As far as performance specifications go, the 150 is defenatly economical! It crusies at about 95 kts and has an 85hp engine. You can't get much more economical then that! It does not go very fast but it is simple and easy to fly.

Most people looking for an aircraft for sale have a love/hate relationship with this model. Sure it is cheap, doesn't burn much fuel and is mechanically fairly simple... It is still a tail-dragger. A lot of younger pilots have no desire to learn how to fly a tail dragger, but a lot of older pilots want to go back to flying one.

The benefit on the 140 is that it is a tail dragger and that gives you a lot of flexibility when you are flying into remote areas or grass/gravel landing strips. This model has been around for over 50 years so you know that it is durable. Also, your going to have a pretty easy time finding parts for this model. The 120 might be a bit harder, but the 140 is pretty common.

Bottom line is - if your looking for a time-tested economical 2 seater with good performance specifications, then you really need to look at the Cessna 120 or 140.
