Cessna 152..

Should You Consider Owning One?

The Cessna 152 is the second generation version of the Cessna 150! The 152 came out in 1977 as Cessna's way to compete with new releases from Beechcraft & Piper. They continued to produce it till 1985 and produced 7,584 models in that time...

They are by far one of the most popular trainers (right behind the 150). The difference between the 150 & the 152 is the 152 moved over to the Lycoming O-235 engine. This gave it more speed and allowed it to have the option of using 100ll as its fuel.

The reality is, your not going to see much of a performance difference in the 152 over the 150! You might get a few knots of extra cruise speed (110kts) or so, but that is about it.

The biggest advantage to buying a used Cessna 152 is that they are newer then the old 150's which ceased production in 1977. You get the bigger engine & you can use 100ll avgas in the engine.

But you really have to watch out when your buying this aircraft.

A LOT of them are used as trainers and most have very high time engines. Also, with so many on the market at once, you are likely going to have a tough time selling yours when you choose to do so.

BUT - IF you buy the right one -- one that has fairly low time, is in great shape and wasn't used as a trainer, your going to be able to get good money for it when you sell it on the market. Who knows, you might just keep it forever! (-:
