Should You Look To This Model Vs The 172?
The Cessna 182 has been flying in the skys since 1956. For the most part this model is similar to the 180 other then the nose wheel landing gear vs the tail wheel landing gear. Both models were produced at the same time all the way through the 50's, 60's, 70's and early 80's until the 180 was discontinued.
The 182 does differ somewhat from the 172 in that it has a base model 230 horsepower engine vs the 145 hp engine (172). Also, as far as performance specifications go - the 182 crusises at about 145 kts vs the 172 will cruise at around 120 kts - (Both are dependant on which class of model you choose.)
Why would you get a 182 over the 172 then? Well, there are a few reasons you would want to. The extra power is always nice if your flying at high altitudes & in hot weather. As well, you have way more model options with the 182. You can get a turbo charged version and a retractable landing gear version (RG). You can also get both together - Cessna 182 T RG.
You can't get that in the little sister 172! There is a downside to owning this model... You are going to spend more on fuel costs as the 235 hp engine will burn more fuel then the 145 hp engine. BUT if you can fit the extra fuel costs in your budget, then you really need to take a second look at this Cessna model as it is a great airplane.
You can't go wrong with an airplane that is still in production after 50 years!
