This Family Of Aircraft Just Might Be Your Best Choice...
The Piper Cherokee is one of the most popular four seater airplanes around. When you add up all the PA 28 Cherokee family (Original Cherokee, Arrow, Warrior, Dakota & Archer) all told there have been over 31,000 produced.
But more specifically, the original Cherokee (150, 160, 180 & 235) are probably the most popular today. The three of them would be in direct competition with the Cessna 172 and the Cessna 182 to some degree. There is really a love/hate relationship between 172 owners and the Cherokee owners.
The original 150 came into production in 1961 and was followed shortly after by the 160, 180 and the 235. The numbers were to show the horsepower that these aircraft had. But that didn't work so well when in 1964 they rolled out the Cherokee 140 and it had 150 hp... But for the most part the horsepower is pretty accurate.
As far as performance specifications go, depending on the above model your going to see cruise speeds in the range of 110 knots to 125 knots (give or take a bit.) That is not bad considering the size of the engines.
The nice thing about these Cherokee's is the fact that you can get parts fairly easily... With there being so many produced you have a lot of available parts. As well, most mechanics have had large amounts of experience fixing these airplanes.
The only thing you have to decide before buying one of the original Cherokee's is if you prefer the low wing aircraft or the high wing aircraft. That is the big dilemma! If you love the low wing and these aircraft fit your budget, then you really need to consider owning one...
