This Piper War Trainer Might Be Your Answer!
The Piper Cub is nothing short of legendary.. Even people who know nothing about flying still know what the Cub is. And if your a pilot looking to buy an aircraft, you'll have no shortage of this model to choose from as their was over 19,000 produced from 1938 to 1947.
It is reported that by the end of WW2 over 80% of all pilots had received their initial training on this aircraft. It was also used to some extent in the actual war as supply planes and for transporting injured people to safety.
Their are still thousands of these aircraft flying today, most have been restored and are used for general flying purposes. As far as performance specifications go, the Cub has a 65 hp engine, cruises at 65 knots & has a range of 191 nm.
It is defiantly not the fastest aircraft in the sky, but one of the most fuel efficient single engine aircraft you can own. The one thing you have to watch about flying the Cub is the fact that if you have a big head wind, you won't be going very far very fast. In fact, most cars will be passing you down below.
Other then the lack of cruise speed, this is a great aircraft if your looking for something to just fly around the local airport on your days off. It is small, cheap to buy and very fuel efficient.
Your one problem in buying one will be trying to find one! These Cub's are in high demand and when someone buys one, they don't sell it. One of the reasons is, it is very inexpensive to own so why sell it. Your best bet is to find one that needs some restoration like new paint or a new engine and get one that way so you can customize it a bit to your liking.
