Is This The Best Piper Twin?
The first Seneca came to the market in 1971. It was an improved version of the Twin Comanche. Due to the fact that it did have some initial design errors, Piper had to go back to the drawing board and in 1975 they came out with the Seneca II which had some changes as well as came in a turbo charged version.
The Seneca is a six seater twin and for the most part is sized up against the Beechcraft Baron & the Cessna 310. Although the performance specifications are not that of the Baron, it is still a good aircraft. With the 200hp Turbo version, your going to see high level cruise speeds of about 175kts.
The Seneca has become a very popular twin engine flight trainer. The version one - released in 1971 is a great trainer in that it is fairly economical to operate and somewhat of a challenge to fly, this gives it great characteristics of being a trainer.
Due to the fact that the doors are so big in the back, it has become a favorite for
charters as well. The club seating makes it attractable and easy to haul four people.
Also, you can take out the seats and you then have a ton of cargo room that is
easily loadable.
All in all, the Seneca is a great aircraft if your looking for a light twin. It is nice
to look at, somewhat economical and is priced good compared to the rival
Beech Baron.
