Piper Tomahawk

Can It Compete With The Cessna 152?

The Tomahawk came to market in 1978. It was Pipers attempt to compete with the Cessna 152/150. Although it did not build the brand recognition that the 150/152 built, the Tomahawk still sold over 2,400 units before taking it out of production in 1982. It really only seen 5 years of full production.

The neat thing about this aircraft is that it was designed to be a trainer. Piper designed it so it had more advanced features such as the ability to stay in a spin longer & had heaver controls to simulate a larger aircraft. That said, it still could not out rival the Cessna.

When it comes to performance specifications, the Tomahawk will cruise at around 100kts. It also has 112hp. So, it is a very economical aircraft that cruises at a nice speed. They are similar in speeds to the Cessna 150/152.

So why in the world would you consider a Tomahawk over a Cessna? Good question! One of the reasons is so you look different. You don't see these aircraft all over the place... Also, it has been reported that this aircraft has a better safety record
then the Cessna models.

Lastly, you should consider this aircraft if your looking for something that can be resold fairly quickly. With so many 150/152's on the market it is hard to sell one in a quick timeframe. Where as the Tomahawk is less known but also very popular and when one goes up for sale that is is low time and in good condition, it moves quick!
