Why The Piper Tri Pacer Is A Hidden Gem That Might Be Your Best Bet!
The Piper Pacer & Tri-Pacer are truly hidden jems! When you consider that they were designed and built starting in the mid 1950's it is pretty amazing what they came up with. If you can find a good Piper Tri-Pace that is for sale - take a serious look at it.
Other then some of the body features, they are an amazing aircraft that you really need to consider owning. I'd go as far to say that if your just looking for an aircraft to get you around on a Sunday afternoon or to some local towns near by, then you need to think about one of these over an early model Cessna 172.
As far as the performance specifications go, the 150 hp Piper Tri-Pacer will cruise at about 115 knots and has a range of around 430 nm. That is pretty much comparable to the 172 or the Cherokee 140/150.
The Pacer came out just a bit before the Tri-Pacer, but once the Tri-Pacer came out it out sold the original version (tail dragger) by a long shot. Over 8,000 of the Tri-Pacers were produced until Piper stopped production in 1960. As of recent data, about 25% of those are still in service.
The challenge you will have though is finding a good one that is for sale! Most pilots who buy these don't want to sell them as they are great and fuel efficient airplanes to own.
The best way to find one for sale is to look on the internet for aircraft estate sales & ones that are for sale that can be rebuilt. That is your best bet!
